Counting Down to the Big Day

This is the last weekend before the big trip! We have so much to do. Thankfully, one big task that is complete is the painting of Maggie's room. Fiona, Stacy and Belinda--you're the greatest! Her room is painted in "Friendly Yellow." Perfect color, perfect name.

John and I still have to complete the last of our adoption paperwork, and I have to finish (Well, start, that is...) a paper for my class. I need to begin packing too. And do some Christmas shopping! Just ten days until I see this little person face to face...

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for sharing our "long and winding" journey to adopt Maggie Lin Green. If you would like to follow along as we travel to China, I hope to update this page (hotel Internet connection permitting) to let you know about the day-to-day events during our two weeks in China.

Just to fill in the backstory, for those of you who don't already know, John and I were officially logged in, documents to China (DTC), on April 12, 2007 through Harrah's Adoption International Mission, located in The Woodlands, Texas. After a year of waiting in a virtual line of thousands of hopeful couples all over the world, it became clear that a regular needs adoption would take many years before completion. In the spring of 2008, we switched over to the special needs program. We looked at a few files that were not right for our family situation, but on July 14th things started to happen quickly, and before we knew it, John and I were sending a letter of intent (LOI) to China in order to adopt Guang Yuerun, a petite 4-year-old living at the Guangzhou Social Welfare Institute. There were many days that we thought the whole thing would never happen, but we received our letter of acceptance (LOA) on October 26th and our travel authorization (TA) on November 19th. John and Zach are patiently waiting at home while my mother and I make the journey to Guangzhou China via Hong Kong. Our travel dates are December 5 - 18.
